So, I was browsing the interwebs the other day and stumbled upon some ridiculous rating scales. And let me tell you, these bad boys have absolutely zero sense of humor.
Exhibit A:
What even is this? “Poor, Fair, Good, Very good, Excellent”?? Boringgggg. Might as well just ask me to rate my day on a scale of 1 to 5 and call it a day. Plus, that little frowny face is seriously bringing me down.
Exhibit B:
Oh, great. A “Likert Scale.” Because apparently, “Strongly Agree” and “Strongly Disagree” just weren’t sufficient enough descriptions for our opinions. And the best part? There’s a “+ NA (Not Applicable)” option. Like, why are you even taking the survey if it’s not applicable to you?! Ugh.
But fear not, my friends. I have discovered the secrets to flattening rater bias and revolutionizing the world of rating scales. Prepare to be amazed.
Step 1:
Get rid of all those boring options and replace them with emojis. ? = Poor, ? = Fair, ? = Good, ? = Very Good, ? = Excellent. Trust me, nothing makes me smile more than seeing a little heart-eyed emoji next to my rating.
Step 2:
Make it personal. Instead of just rating a generic service or product, make it about the experience. “How did you feel about your visit to the dentist?” “Rate your level of satisfaction with your recent Netflix binge.” Suddenly, rating scales are more than just mindless clicking. They’re a reflection of our emotions and innermost thoughts.
Step 3:
Finally, throw in some humor. Maybe the “poor” option has a little sad face that says “womp womp” when you click it. Maybe the “excellent” option has a confetti cannon animation that goes off when you select it. Who knows, the possibilities are endless. Just make sure to keep it light and fun.
And there you have it, folks. The key to making rating scales actually enjoyable. No more boring, soulless surveys for us. We demand personality and entertainment in our feedback forms!
Until next time, keep rating with a smile.
