How To Remove Swirl Textured Ceiling

Oh boy, do I have a story for you all today. So, apparently some people out there think it’s a smart idea to put textured ceilings in their homes. I know, I know, it sounds insane to me too, but it’s true. And to make matters worse, some of these people then decide that they want to remove said textured ceiling, which can be an absolute nightmare.

Enter the DIYers

Now, I love a good DIY project as much as the next person, but when it comes to removing textured ceilings, I have to say I’m a little skeptical. It’s not exactly the easiest task in the world, and if you don’t know what you’re doing, it can quickly turn into a disaster.

But of course, there are always those brave souls out there who are willing to take on the challenge. And in some cases, they even manage to succeed!

Slap that texture off

One method that seems to be pretty popular among the DIY crowd is using a slap brush to apply joint compound to the ceiling and create a textured effect. But if you’re looking to remove that texture, be prepared for a long and laborious process.

You’ll need to scrape and sand the ceiling until all of that texture is gone, and then you’ll need to repair any damage that you may have caused in the process. It’s not exactly a quick or easy task, but for some reason, people still seem to think it’s a good idea.

Is it worth it?

So, is all of this effort really worth it in the end? Well, that depends on your personal preference, I suppose. Some people absolutely hate the look of textured ceilings and would do just about anything to get rid of it. Others don’t mind it so much and are perfectly happy to leave it as is.

Personally, I think there are better ways to spend your DIY time and energy, but then again, I’m not the one living under a textured ceiling.

So, if you’re feeling brave and decide to take on the challenge of removing your textured ceiling, I wish you the best of luck. Just be prepared for a long, frustrating, and potentially messy process. And if all else fails, you can always just hire a professional to do it for you.
