Although square watermelons were first developed in Japan in the late 1970s to make transportation and storage easier, they are incredibly rare and expensive, with some selling for over $200 each. They are often used as decorative items or novelty items, rather than for consumption.

In reference to the second image, I learned about a man named Larry Schecker, also known as “The American Mastermind,” who holds the record for the largest watermelon patch in the world. Schecker’s patch, located in Oklahoma, consists of over 4,000 watermelon vines and can produce up to 100,000 watermelons in a season! Now that’s impressive.

Watermelons are a popular summer fruit not just in America, but around the world. According to the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization, China is the world’s leading producer of watermelons, followed by Turkey, Iran, Brazil, and Egypt.

In conclusion, square watermelons may be rare and expensive, but they sure are interesting to learn about. And while Larry Schecker’s watermelon patch is incredible, the real star is the watermelon itself, a sweet and juicy fruit loved by many.
