As I was scrolling through my feed, I stumbled upon some seriously concerning news. Apparently, a transient tried to attack employees with a knife at a Home Depot in Victorville. Can you believe that? These hardworking folks were just doing their job, trying to help out customers, and some lunatic decides to threaten them with a deadly weapon.
Now, I don’t know about you, but when I go to Home Depot, I expect to be greeted with a smile and some helpful advice. I’m not trying to worry about my safety or the safety of the employees. This is just unacceptable.
But you know what really grinds my gears? It’s the fact that this kind of nonsense happens all too often. It seems like every day there’s a new headline about some kind of violence or crime happening in our communities. And you know who’s usually the target? You guessed it: Black folks.
I don’t know about you, but I’m tired of this. I’m tired of constantly feeling unsafe, of constantly having to look over my shoulder. We deserve better. We deserve to feel safe and secure in our own communities.
But don’t get me wrong, Home Depot isn’t the only place where this kind of thing happens. In fact, I came across another article about a Home Depot in Westerville that featured a picture of two proud Black employees. While it’s great to see representation, it’s disheartening to know that even in a place where Black people are working hard and doing their best, there’s still a chance that they could be targeted by violence.
It’s time for a change. It’s time for us to demand better from our communities and our leaders. We need to come together and work towards making our neighborhoods safer for everyone. We can’t keep living in fear. We deserve better.
So to all my fellow Black folks out there, stay vigilant, stay aware, and stay safe. And to those who think it’s okay to threaten and intimidate others, let me tell you something: we won’t stand for it. We’re tired of being afraid, and we’re not going to take it anymore. It’s time for a change.
