Plants That Grow Eggs

Growing eggplants in containers is a great option for those who want to enjoy the taste of this delicious vegetable but have limited space. Eggplants are not only easy to grow in containers, but they also look beautiful and can be used as ornamental plants in your balcony, patio or garden.

To get started, you will need a deep container, preferably about 18 inches deep, with good drainage holes. Fill the container with a well-draining potting mix, leaving about an inch of space at the top. Eggplants need regular watering, so ensure that the soil stays moist but not waterlogged.

Choose a sunny spot for your container as eggplants love full sun. Place the container in a location that gets at least six hours of direct sunlight each day. You may want to use a stake or trellis to support the plant as it grows taller.

When choosing eggplant seeds, look for varieties that are suitable for container growing. Some popular varieties include Black Beauty, Rosa Bianca, and Fairy Tale. Plant the seeds about half an inch deep and about three inches apart. Cover the seeds with soil and gently tamp down.

Once the seedlings start to emerge, thin them out so that only one plant remains per container. Eggplants require regular fertilization, so you may want to use a balanced liquid fertilizer every two weeks during the growing season.

As the plant grows, you may notice that it starts to produce purple flowers. These flowers will eventually develop into the eggplants we know and love. Harvest the eggplants when they are fully mature and the skin is glossy and firm to the touch.

In addition to being delicious, eggplants are also packed with nutrients. They are a good source of fiber, vitamin C, and potassium. In fact, one medium-sized eggplant contains only about 25 calories but provides almost 10% of the recommended daily intake of fiber.

If you’re looking for a unique and nutritious addition to your garden or balcony, growing eggplants in containers is definitely worth a try. So why not give it a go and enjoy the taste of homegrown eggplants all season long?
